Japanese Grey imports 400cc ~ 180KMPH RESTRICTOR

hey guy's,
This is an interesting piece of information,
Because Japanese learner laws are different from our own, they have a top speed restiction at 180kmph or 112MPH
This is quite easy to bypass.

Basically their is a disk inside the speedometer that rotates with the speedo needle, so when it hits 180kmh it alters the ignition timing on 2 cylinders, so it cannot go faster than 180.

There are several ways to remedy it,
1. The easiest but most expensive way is to fit a MPH converter, around £30, from a local bike shop, M&P direct, or Demon Tweeks.
2. Fit a resistor in the circuit, this I will explain in the next post (2 ways). around £1 - 2 in parts.
3. Remove the disk inside the speedo, or bend the metal tab/electrical connector. ( if you can get inside, its quite difficult!) FREE.
4. buy for £40+ a box that fits in at the CDI end of the loom, with a resistor inside, from a shop, but their is no point as you can do it yourself for cheaper.

disk inside speedo.

HOW IT WORKS;
1. Basically the first way fools the speedo into thinking your doing km when your doing mph, and since no cb400 is going to go faster than 180mph the converter is a good option for derestricting it.

2. This fools the circuit into thinking the disk hasn't spun to 180 and completed the circuit in the speedo.

3. Without the disk it cannot complete the circuit, thus the bike thinks its traveling slower than 180kmh.

IS YOUR BIKE RESTRICTED?
probably, Its easy to find out how.
In other bikes or a faired version its the dash fuse.
Just remove the fuse for (its 1 fuse mine is a 10Amp);
"meter, tail light, horn, turn, stop light, neutral light, hazard".

Then ride the bike, carefully!
remembering you have no indicators, no rear lights, no neutral light, no horn.

It should misfire at 5500 RPM, and believe me its noticeable.
If it doesn't misfire your bike has been derestricted already.

fusebox, its the missing fuse.

NEXT POST IS A HOW TO!

hello its time for part 2 of the derestriction.

essentially inside the rear of the speedo, after you take off the fake chrome backing their is a block connector on the rear.

You basically unplug this and fit a resistor mod. which is as follows.

PARTS.
Small female spade connectors,
some wire,
some heat shrink,
and a 2k OHM resistor.

It connects to the two side connectors in the plug,
you dont connect the green middle wire,
just connect the orange with blue trace to one end.
and connect the black with brown trace to the other end.

here's what it should look like now.

There is another way of doing it, that saves the fuse from blowing causing the low rev misfire, (it wont go for a long time though).
You have to fit the resistor mod at the CDI end.
see next post.

PART 3
CDI end resistor mod.

at the CDI or ECU , you need too source two wires. First the BROWN/BLUE STRIPED wire cut it.
Then a BLACK/WHITE wire you need too remove a small amount of the plastic insulation.
Then solder a 2k ohm resistor ( 20p from maplins)from the bared BLACK/WHITE wire too the BROWN/BLUE STRIPED wire at the CDI END. then away you go

The easiest solution...

KMPH to MPH converter £30
