I've owned my 400 for three weeks and had the 5000rpm problem, woudn't rev past in higher gears.
Read up on the 112mph restrictor problem, then stripped the speedo and removed the sensor pick up, result no change.
The exhaust fumes smelled rich at tick over, removed the air filter went for a run and problem solved. Fitted a new air filter and have a slight stutter at 5000rpm but 99% better.
Hope this info helps.

Thats good.
Glad to hear its almost fixed, if the air filter was that dirty.
When was its last service, a set of new plugs might make it run even nicer.
The manual says to run.
NGK CR8EH-9
OR
NGK CR9EH-9
I find that the 9 makes the sf run better.
